Minimum Requirements For Buying a Digital Photo Picture Frame

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Any digital photo picture frame you buy needs to be simple and easy for you to use and it should come with a minimum of a basic, but solid feature set and of course don’t forget you will need an above the average display quality. It also needs to display your photos in the way you want!

Typical display size should be a 7 inch or 8 inch, if you can afford it, as anything smaller is not so easy to se and anything bigger is going to cost you more money without doubt. This should give you an actual frames size of up to 10 to 11 inches by 6 or 7 inches, but this will obviously vary based on the thickness or width of the bezel area around the display itself.

Today it seems that black is the color of choice for digital photo frames, but if you look around you will find other popular colors such as silver or gray or blue. For more exotic colors you are going to be hard pushed to find exactly what you want. However it is always worth trying as the exact color match you need may be out there, but it may take you some time to find it. Check the kind of stand that comes with the digital frame and make sure it can support the frame in both portrait (tall) mode and landscape (wide). If you only need one of these positions then just make sure it does the one you need.

Some stands will also be less stable than others so make sure the one you are getting is stable. Another option is wall mounting, so check for this too if you need it in your digital photo picture frame.

Next check out the controls for the digital frame you want to buy. Where are they and are they easily accessible and easy to use? Usually you will find a set of buttons for power, menu selection and navigation situated on the front, back or side of the frame.

Make sure they are where you are comfortable using them. If you don’t like fiddly controls and you want a simpler and easier to use solution then buy a digital frame that comes with a remote. This will make everything so easy, but it will cost you more too!

Also check to determine which memory card slots the frame has and obviously make sure it has the one you need, such as the same slot for the card you use in your digital camera. These are all simple checks, but get this one wrong and you won’t be able to use your digital picture frame in the way that you want.

Most standard digital photo frames should now provide for CompactFlash, Memory Stick Pro and Duo, SDHC, MMC and XD slots for you to insert memory cards. In addition you should also have a USB slot of some kind.

These are necessary so you can connect your digital photo picture frame directly to your personal computer (laptop, notebook, netbook, apple mac or whatever) to download images from it easily. If you don’t have a computer and are just going to use the memory card from your digital camera then this is not so important.

Some more recent digital frames also now come with a full sized USB connector so you can connect a USB flash drive or thumb drive directly to it. These are useful for transferring a large number of images across at one time. Don’t forget to ensure that there is an AC adapter connection and power back included with the digital frame as powering these with batteries will get expensive very quickly. Also check the display quality – is it good enough?

Finally checkout the functionality of what the frame software will do by seeing how the menu options and navigation work. Slideshows are standard, but also see what other facilities are available with the digital photo frames you are considering. Then make a comparison and see which one gives you the best value for money!

How a Digital Photo Frame Completes a Digital Camera

Friday, February 26th, 2010

A digital photo frame is a logical gift or add on for anyone with a digital camera. Most consumers in the digital photography markets have made the transition to digital cameras and digital pictures. Digital cameras like all consumer electronics have reduced significantly in price, improved in things like megapixels, optical zoom, and internal storage, and virtually eliminated the need to get pictures developed. Since anyone with a digital camera is gathering a large amount of digital pictures, a digital photo frame that allows them to immediately display them makes perfect sense.

Digital cameras created a freedom in picture taking that didn’t exist with traditional film. With the ever increasing storage capacity of memory cards, most of us with a digital camera can happily take an endless number of digital pictures and not worry about running out of film or how much its going to cost to get them all developed. Digital cameras make all of us snapshot happy.

The downside to this of course is that most of us gather a tremendous amount of digital pictures. Go on a European vacation and you could come home with a couple hundred digital pictures. These usually get transferred onto a computer or laptop, where they stay forever and rarely get viewed. Sure we may print a couple (photo printers are also now much cheaper) and put them in some frames around the house, but the hundreds or thousands of others are stored away into oblivion.

That’s why digital photo frames are forecasted to be on such a steep growth trajectory. A digital frame allows you to load you digital pictures and display them in what looks like a traditional picture frame, but with an LCD display device in place of the glass. You can either easily transfer the memory card from your digital camera to the frame, or transfer photos from the camera to a memory card in the digital frame, and start displaying photos. Some digital picture frames have internal memory as well (no memory card needed) and you can download straight from your computer – very flexible.

The main difference between a Digital Frame and a regular photo frame is their dynamic nature. A digital photo frame can display many photos in a slide show type format. They also come with lots of display mode features to define how many photos to display, type of transition, multiple pictures on the screen, and can display videos and play music as well. Digital frames are consumer electronics that take picture frames to another level.

Digital photo frames are great for around the house or in an office, and also make wonderful gifts, especially if you preload with photos from your photo collection. Your gift recipient will open the frame and immediately start seeing pictures they recognize. Plus, as your digital image collection grows, you can keep fresh pictures on your screen, or a friend or family member’s frame, so that you always display new pictures on the frame. Many Digital photo frames now have wireless features that makes sending new photos from your PC to digital frame even simpler.

So if you have a digital camera (and who doesn’t these day), pay attention because a digital photo frame will likely be an accessory that makes sense for you. Its time to start showing off all those digital photos you’ve snapped, and a digital photo frame is the best way to do it.

Upload Pictures Easily With a USB Digital Photo Frame

Friday, February 26th, 2010

As digital cameras have become so popular that just about every family owns at least one camera of this type, barely anyone is using cameras that take real film anymore.

There are such huge benefits to using a digital camera that most people don’t even use their old film cameras anymore. They look at them like they are relics and they are correct. These new cameras are faster to develop and cheaper because you can just upload it yourself and print out your own picture if you desire or if you prefer you can just share them with friends and family by email. If you can do all that then what is the point of wasting paper and printing them out?

If most people are not printing pictures out but are rather sharing them with friends and family, then there really is no reason to get hard copies. That is why manufacturers have invented a way to display them straight from your computer or from a USB reader to an album of sorts. That is what a USB digital photo frame is. It is an album that we upload our pictures from either our computers where the pictures are located to the frame or some frames have the capability of taking a USB reader and transferring the pictures directly without ever being attached to the computer.

Instead of opening your album and looking at the pictures you took, you can look at the this great display of your pictures as it shows off all your favorite shots day in and day out 365 days a year over and over. When you get tired of seeing those shots then you just use the reader or your computer to upload new pictures and discard the old pictures. USB Digital photos frame really is that easy. No wasted money, no need to purchase a photo album and store them, and best of all you save on paper and the chemicals needed to develop film. This is not only good for your wallet but is also good for the environment.

Learn Digital Photography – It’s All in the Detail

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

For many people a great big image with a strong subject is the perfect image but for most others it’s in the detail. As a close-up photographer I love to get in very close and shoot things that aren’t always that obvious to the eye. It opens up a whole new world.

The first time I started seeing detail was when I purchased a set of close-up lenses, or rather filters as they are known to day. These you screwed on to the end of your lens and they helped bring the object much closer to the lens. The only problem in those days was that it took a week for your images to come back from the photolab. Only then could you really view the image and see what you had actually shot. I would love to compare what I achieved then with what I have now but unfortunately my house burned down and I lost all of those memories.

So why shoot detail? I shoot detail because it opens up a whole new world of opportunities. A red fire engine no longer has the same attraction to because there are so many details that I can capture when I get in closer. When using a macro lens it becomes even more exciting.

Focusing on detail helps fill the whole frame and there is no clutter around the edges. Filling the frame shows more of the subject while showing less. Some of the details are amazing as we never really inspect large objects in too much detail. The other day I was shooting a shiny motorcycle and soon discovered that when I zoomed in on the grill there were just so many little details I had never seen before.

You’re also able to isolate areas of detail which viewed close-up by themselves gives a whole different aspect to the image. We all tend to stand back too far from our subjects but shooting detail forces us into the space of the object we’re shooting.

If you really like abstract photography then detail is for you. Taking a large object and shooting it piece by piece isolated from the whole gives a definite abstract feel to the image. On many occasions you can’t tell what the overall object is because the part appears too far removed from the whole.

Three words of warning.

  1. Watch how close you get to the subject. Too close and you start casting shadows and affecting the light falling on the object.
  2. Going too abstract too much of the time defeats the object of photography. You never shoot the whole which can on many occasions result in a stunning image.
  3. Be aware of reflections. Because you are right on top of your subject, reflections can interfere with the photo. Sometimes you do want to see a reflection of yourself but most times not.

Use detail photography to create great images but don’t allow it to force you into a box and restrict your creativity. Details are great when used as part of your photography without allowing it to dominate.

How Digital Photo Software Can Improve Photo Printing

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

With all the technology that is involved with digital cameras and inkjet laser printers it’s not always the photographers trained eye that makes the difference between a great and poor photo print. Taking a great picture used to be all you had to worry about. But today there are many other factors involved not only with the digital camera itself but also with the computer you are using to download the photos and the printer you use to print the images.

When a picture goes through so many components it is very easy for the image to be re-sized, changed to a different resolution and manipulated in ways you weren’t aware. Then when you go to print the picture you get something entirely different from what you expected. One way to improve your digital photo printing is to invest in software programs that help you edit, organize, store and crop photos prior to printing so you can be sure you get a great print every time.

Depending on your skill level and knowledge about computers there are a wide variety of software programs that can help beginners and experts alike in getting terrific photo prints from digital cameras. Photoshop was one of the first software editing programs for photography and Adobe continues to offer upgrades for this popular software program.

Some of the features that make Adobe one of the more popular photo editing software programs is that it allows you to adjust highlights and shadows, convert to grayscale, touch up scratches and blemishes and create border designs for picture frames. All of these features allow you to touch up photos before printing so you get a clear, high resolution print.

Other photo printing software programs will allow you to utilize a variety of tools to enhance your photos such as rotate, flip, color and light levels, crop, blur, sharpen, alpha, red-eye remove and color corrections. All of these tools can help you edit your photos until you get the exact image you want. These clever programs almost eliminate bad pictures entirely since even the slightest lighting or color error can be fixed with a few key strokes.

Once you’ve finished editing all your photos then you will be ready to print on any make or model inkjet laser printer without worrying how your pictures will turn out. Many photo printing software programs include advance view features that let you see how the picture will print so you can make any last second adjustments before sending the image on to be printed.

Have Fun With Dog Photo Calendars

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

So, are you thinking about making a photo calendar for your dog? That’s great! Dog photo calendars are a great way to keep the treasured moments with your pet, and they also make a great gift for anyone who loves their dogs. It’s a month by month photo album that you can customize the way you like it, and with online stores who offer calendar printing it’s just as easy as uploading a photo.

You have your options depending on your available time and patience. You can try making a dog photo calendar by yourself. For this you’ll need good materials that will ensure the calendar will last the whole year. Print your photos in high quality paper. The cardboard or paper that you use to build the calendar should be high quality also, and fit to your needs (you can design the calendar on the computer or maybe doing it all by hand).

On the other hand you have online stores where you can print a calendar customized with your pictures. The results are pretty awesome, because most of these stores use specialized machinery and know what are the best quality materials to use. Best of all, it is very easy, and you’ll just basically have to wait for the delivery. They also have a lot of templates to choose from.

Dog picture calendars are great because you can enjoy taking pictures of your dog especially for the calendar. Dressing your dog to represent each month is very fun; you will get a lot of laughs with this! I once had to follow my dog around my entire house just to get him to wear the Christmas hat I made for him. At the end it paid off though, and he always barks when he looks at the calendar, and guess what, the photos of me following the dog will be on next years calendar.

Paolo Basauri is an expert author, you can find more information and links about dog photo calendars [http://photo-gifts.toppayingideas.com/photo-calendars.html] on [http://photo-gifts.toppayingideas.com], the best place to give a unique gift.

Build a Photo Booth For Fun Or Profit

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

You can build a photo booth to capture your friends and family’s smiling faces at weddings, parties, or just for fun. If you have just a minimal amount of do it yourself skills, you too can build a decent photobooth.

What do I need to build a photo booth? Will I need any special tools or equipment?

The answer to that question depends on how fancy you want to get. If you are going for simplicity, you could simply hang curtains, and put a camera on a tripod. From there you can go on to add benches, permanent lighting, and a digital camera. If you are going to be building an actual booth, you’ll need typical woodworkers or cabinet making tools.

Give your subjects the option to delete a photo of them.

Not everyone likes every picture taken of them. Make sure that your photobooth gives the subject the option to delete a picture and do a retake if desired. It’s a good idea to have the lighting movable so as to give people the ability to avoid taking unflattering photos.

Plan your photo booth with enough space.

At weddings especially, guests like to take group shots. Keep that fact in mind when you are planning out your photobooth. Give them the opportunity to include all their friends in the shots. Make your benches large enough to accommodate a group of people.

Include a printer.

Guests will definitely want a copy of the photos. You may want to download all the pictures to give to the bride and groom too. Most printers will print out magnetic sheets of pictures, and this may be a great option to keep in mind. People love to have photos they can put on their fridge!

More and more, photo booths are becoming the must have item at parties and weddings. With a bit of ingenuity and skill, you can build a photo booth that will have everybody smiling.
