Learn Digital Photography – How to Maximise Your Photography Learning Experience
By Wayne G Turner

It amazes me that people who want to learn photography don’t maximise their learning experience. They seem to just wander along like piece of driftwood tossed on the surf of the ocean hoping to land at the destination of great image taking. Here’s how to maximise your learning experience.

Many people purchase a digital camera and then hope that by some miracle of technology they will start taking wonderful photographs. Chance and serendipity do not create great images, you do. In order for you to shoot really great photos you need to give it some serious thought and make a move on your way to great photos. Here’s how to do it.

1. Maximise your thought process

The greatest photographers are thinking photographers. They take time out to think about what they want to do and how they will achieve those great images. If you are not thinking as you learn then you won’t maximise opportunities that stare you in the face. A thought process must start somewhere in order to reach its climax. So, take time out to sit, think and ponder what you want out of it.

2. Maximise your photographic identity

Find out who you are first and what you enjoy in life. Don’t copy what others enjoy. It’s not going to last for you if you follow a dream that isn’t yours. Sit down with a pen a paper and write down what you enjoy in life, your hobbies and interests. What pushes your buttons? A shiny vintage car or an antique pen set or perhaps a yacht in full sail. Define yourself as a photographer first. If close-up photos ring your bells then write it down. If wide open landscapes excite you then write it down. By defining what you like early on you will start heading in the right direction. I realised early in my journey that close-ups were my passion. Thirty years later it is still the same.

3. Maximise your goal setting

Once you know what you like then set your goals out on paper. You must right them down so that you can measure whether you are reaching them. Plan what you are going to do on your journey and what you need to learn to achieve it. This means that you can plan to do a course, buy a book, research on the internet and buy or budget for the equipment necessary to achieve your goals. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail. Knowledge is power over yourself and your dreams.

4. Maximise your practise

Similar to goal setting is taking the time to practise your art or hobby. Allocate the time in your schedule no mater how busy you might be. Regular and focused practise will go a long way to helping you become a quality photo taker. Gary Player the famous golfer and winner of every major tournament over 5 decades says that the harder he practises the luckier he gets. You create your own luck through dedicated effort and practise.

5. Maximise your review and evaluation

You cannot progress along your photographic journey unless you take the time out for review and reflection. Firstly on the quality of your images and secondly on where you are at with the goals you have set for yourself. Set specific review dates in advance of your planning then sit down and measure your self against these plans. If you aren’t aiming at the bull’s eye you may not even reach the target. Make the time to evaluate where you are at and then based on where you are, create a new set of goals for yourself.

By following these steps I can guarantee that you will go a long way as you learn digital photography. The person who is focused and looks for results in their learning experience will maximise that experience. Simple steps to follow but maximum results will be achieved. Happy shooting!

Share Photos on Your Own Website Using Flash Photo Gallery

Share Photos on Your Own Website Using Flash Photo Gallery
By Ko Fai Godfrey Ko

The use of a photo gallery can range from a set of happy snaps of the grandchildren to a collection of sales oriented images.

The common theme here is the presentation. Initially photos were expensive to store on the web because of their size. These days that is not an issue as storage is cheap, and most people are browsing the net with broadband connection.

What counts now is the quality and fitness for the purpose. Happy snaps and sales imagery both share the need for captioning and ease of maintenance. This is where professional web photo gallery software comes in. It allows you to group like images, to name and discuss them and to present them in both full and thumbnail size.

So what is the difference between a set of BMW photos to drool over and a set of drooling grand kids? Apart from the obvious images, there is only the method of presentation. In other words, the template. The kid’s photos would likely be on a light or colored background with thicker borders whilst the BMW photos would be set on a shiny black background with a pencil thin frame of white or silver.

More and more websites these days feature a flash based photo gallery on their website. Most flash photo gallery software are easy to use and comes with templates to suit any purpose. You can then organize marketing imagery on a web site or on a CD for distribution to prospects. The base technology is flash, so it can be embedded in most applications and is operating system independent.

There is another, more subtle benefit of using a flash photo gallery. The base files stay on your computer. You can swiftly and easily modify the presentation easily and upload it. If the site gets hacked or hit by a worm, you can rapidly reload.

Many of the shared image services on the web consider your photos to be free from copyright and allow their free use. Flash photo gallery will protect your images from copying using the old right click trick. This is of little consequence if they are just happy snaps. If however they are graphic work that you have paid for, it is a totally different story.

In conclusion, a flash photo gallery will provide you with the ability to present a set of images in a stylish and professional manner at minimal cost.

Learn Digital Photography – 3 Steps to Fantastic Portraits

Learn Digital Photography – 3 Steps to Fantastic Portraits
By Wayne G Turner

Most of the shots taken by the average person are family shots and of those the greater percentage are portraits. Why, because we want to remember the important things in life, our friends and family? Let’s take a look at three ways to create fantastic portraits.

Portraits are traditionally taken in studios by a professional photographer at great cost because we know that we are going to get great images. That doesn’t mean you can’t take top photos of family and friends by yourself. It really is simple if you follow a few key pointers.

1. Location

Always find a great place to take your photos. An area that is interesting and with backgrounds that will show off the person being photographed. There should be no distractions and the background should be simple and uncluttered. A good location is going to complement the overall image. Be very aware of the colours in the scene so that there is no clashing between your subject’s clothes and other elements in the photo. Choose a location where there are a variety of props that will improve the image. These could be a vintage car, a tree with an interesting trunk or an archway, window or stone structure. It gives the subject something to hold on to or lean against. A subject standing on a plain background will make an average image.

2. Get in closer

We are all guilty of shooting images that are not close enough to the subject. Of course you need to vary your photoshoot and take some wide angled shots but the majority of the images need to be shot in close. More detail often means better memories later. Getting in closer does two things, one, lets you see more of the person in the final photo and two, helps to exclude all of the unnecessary clutter you often see in an image. Be aware of the edges of your scene when framing it in the viewfinder or on the LCD. Find the clutter and you won’t have to crop unnecessarily in your editing software.

3. Change your angle and your format

Firstly your angles. By shooting from a variety of different angles such as low down or high up you will change your viewpoint and make a more interesting portrait. So many images are shot from directly in front of the subject and most people have seen images like this. They are average and below par. On the other hand by looking for unique angles you will create a dynamic photo. Secondly your format, a portrait taken using a vertical format may seem the right way to take it. But, if you use a horizontal format it may result in an even better image. And, if you really want to be daring turn the camera 45 degrees and see what results. Key here is to experiment with all the formats and see what you get.

By putting these three steps into practise I can guarantee that your portraits will improve and the resulting dynamic images will place you head and shoulders above your peers. Happy shooting!

Tips to Creating a Digital Photo Slideshow
By Michael Greenway

The advent of digital photography has introduced people to more interesting ways of capturing, sharing, and storing snap shots of precious life moments. By allowing you to see and manipulate your pictures first before printing, you avoid paying for bad photographs or photographs with indecipherable details. Along with the improvements made to modern digital cameras and printers is the creation of various digital image display media. Instead of scrapbooking to organizing your stock photos, digital photo slideshows make it possible for you to capture and display much of your family’s precious moments in your home.

Digital slideshows are becoming the rage in displaying photographs. You have seen them everywhere: in magazine and television ads and in the featured houses of young celebrities. Unlike its paper counterpart, putting digital slideshows in digital image frames is actually more practical, economical, and space-savvy. It eliminates the fuss of printing and arranging photographs in individual frames. Also, this setup does not cause your photographs to be ripped or fade. No more crowding table surfaces with family picture frames as digital photo slideshows cover all your family’s fond memories and perfect pictures in one single photo frame.

Digital photo slideshows do not involve rocket science to complete. With basic computer skills, you can organize and create a photo montage. Aside from being easy, it also supports a variety of image files and file storage media. Your photos may be put up in DVDs or high-definition video format in executable files. To add more effects in personalizing or customizing your digital slideshow, there are professional slideshow software programs that you can use to get the results that you want.

There are digital photo slideshow software applications that can help you create and run slides like a breeze. These tools may help you set the sequence of your photo display. Also, they can add in effects like playing your favorite music background along with your uninterrupted digital slideshow. They may even help you index your photos with descriptions, attributes, and keywords like weddings, birthdays, or vacations. Aside from offering speedy slideshow setup, these tools may also offer a simple and easy to follow system of cataloging your photos, making them easy to access, retrieve or find whenever the need arise.

However, the ease of putting up a digital photo slideshow is relative. Some may find it difficult, challenging, and frustrating. Fortunately, there is another way of making and feeding beautiful digital photo slideshows for your new digital frame. Professional digital image services include slideshow making in its long list of photo processing orders. Any company that offers complete digital image management solutions conveniently offers digital photo slideshow services with limitless creative options. All you need to do is submit your photos and leave all the work to the pros. In addition to digital frames, professional-grade digital photo slideshow may also be integrated to your computer’s screensaver options, iPod movie selections, and website flash display.

In addition to flawless photo sequencing and complementing audio background, putting up a well-made digital photo slideshow puts your family’s pictures and precious memories in the spotlight.

Using a Digital Photo Frame to Display Your Photo Collections

Using a Digital Photo Frame to Display Your Photo Collections
By Kieran Roberts

Have you heard about digital photo frames? They have changed what I do as a photographer. As soon as I first got a hold of my first digital camera, I started loving it and took a lot of pictures over the first couple of years or so. I may still not be a professional photographer quite yet, but I’m quickly learning all the basics in taking the best snapshots and how to display my favorite images on the walls of my home.

But high framing costs and my available wall space limits the number of photos that can be displayed at any given time, and the cost of printing these pictures is now putting a big dent in my wallet, and maybe soon even my love for this great hobby.

But I recently bought my first digital photo frame, and as a result I have now found the solution to my problem!

This is an entirely new form of recent technology in the field of consumer electronics and these digital photo frames have now taken the photo display market by storm. Gone are the ugly plastic photo albums and frames which I used to have, and which don’t really guarantee that your life work of photos will be preserved, to be replaced with digital frames and much better presentation and display system.

Now you can enjoy your photos in a whole new dimension with these new digital picture frames, without having to buy another traditional frame to display your printed photos, because you can now put all of your more recent digital memories in one place. A digital photo frame is an elegant presentation displayed in a frame that will entice envy from your friends and guests.

There are many questions however on the practicability of this new technology. Due to its newness, people who are not technologically savvy are mindful in using this new gadget. But technically, a digital picture frame is basically an improved version of ordinary frames, which we can either hang on the wall or put on our desk and on tables or in places where people usually look at our collections of things in our home or in the office.

This new gadget is an electronic device that reproduces the appearance of a frame to display pictures on the LCD screen from a digital source. This device is operated by battery or from any AC power outlet in our home or office.

A digital picture frame can load the digital photos or images it needs from memory cards using either a built-in card slot or with the use of other connectors such as Bluetooth, USB or your home wi-fi system. Nowadays, most people are used to using cell phones, computers, and other electronic devices, which are nowhere near as complicated as digital photo frames. Thus it’s no longer an issue as to whether operating one of them is as complicated as its sounds.

The benefit I see in having a digital photo frame in your possession is its usability. With my passion for photography and my plan to show people my photographic work, now without the expensive and time consuming collections of old photo albums, I can simply use a gadget that will display all my best photo images in one place. This is now the most practical way of displaying photos and I have to buy more of them!

Depending on the memory capacity of the digital frame you can literally show off hundreds if not thousand of your photos either taken directly from your digital camera or as a product of hard work and clever Photoshop editing techniques. You can now show them all the pictures by just clicking on a button and all of them will be displayed one by one as an automatic slideshow.

Some new brands of these devices are even accompanied by a function to play sound effects from audio files or playback videos you took, as well as your digital photo collection.

There is now a very wide variety of frames for you to choose from, from large electronic frames to display on the wall down to the small 7 inch frames for your desk.

Really there’s now no limit on the possibilities of what you can now do with these amazing digital picture frames!

For more information on the best Electronic Picture Frame for your photos just visit our website, where you will be able to read full details on the top features and benefits. Also visit our Digital Photo frame Store to see all the latest model releases and the different options available to you.
